Resinorte's mission is to operate and manage the multi-municipal system for sorting, collecting, recovering, and treating urban waste in the north-central region, contributing to the sustainable development of the region and the country.
Vision and Strategy

RESINORTE is the multi-municipal system for sorting, collecting, recovering, and treating urban solid waste in the North Central region. RESINORTE was created and established on October 20, 2009, through Decree-Law No. 235/2009, later amended by Decree-Law No. 106/2014 of July 2.

The North-Central System includes the following municipalities as its original users: Alijó, Amarante, Armamar, Baião, Boticas, Cabeceiras de Basto, Celorico de Basto, Chaves, Cinfães, Fafe, Guimarães, Lamego, Marco de Canaveses, Mesão Frio, Moimenta da Beira, Mondim de Basto, Montalegre, Murça, Penedono, Peso da Régua, Resende, Ribeira de Pena, Sabrosa, Santa Marta de Penaguião, Santo Tirso, São João da Pesqueira, Sernancelhe, Tabuaço, Tarouca, Trofa, Valpaços, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Vila Real, and Vizela.

This system covers a geographical area of ​​8,090 km², serves a population of approximately one million inhabitants, and generates about 350,000 tons of urban waste per year.

RESINORTE is the concessionaire of the North-Central System and, since July 28, 2015, has been a predominantly privately owned company with a share capital of €8,000,000, distributed by Empresa Geral de Fomento, S.A., at a rate of 75.1%, with the remaining 24.9% distributed among some of the municipalities using the system directly or through associations.
