Resinorte steps up its response following the closure of the Andrães Landfill

Resinorte announces that the Vila Real Transfer Station will resume operations on Tuesday, 7 April, following the temporary suspension of urban waste reception at the Andrães Landfill, as part of the injunction filed by Vila Real Municipal Council, which is currently pending a decision. During a particularly demanding period such as Easter, marked by an increase in waste production, this situation has caused significant operational constraints.
From the moment the ban took effect, all municipalities using the Andrães Landfill in Vila Real were informed that they could continue to deliver urban waste to other Resinorte facilities, namely the Boticas and Bigorne landfills, ensuring the continuity of public service under environmentally safe conditions.
This situation, resulting from the legal action brought by Vila Real Municipal Council, has a direct impact on Resinorte’s operations and on the essential service provided to municipalities, at a time when the waste management system is already under severe pressure and landfill capacity is at a critical level.

From the outset, Resinorte sought to restore operational capacity in Vila Real, but this was not immediately possible because the on-site transfer station for unsorted waste had been out of service since 18 February, following the granting of the TUA (Single Environmental Permit) authorising the resumption of waste disposal at the Andrães Landfill in Vila Real. Given the timeframe involved and the increased requirements for mobilising the technical and logistical resources necessary to start operations at this facility, Resinorte informs that operations will resume on 7 April.
With the Transfer Station coming into operation, Vila Real once again has a local operational solution. Nevertheless, local authorities that so wish may continue to make deliveries to the landfills in Boticas or Bigorne. Landfills continue to play an essential role in the functioning of the waste management system, complementing efforts to reduce, reuse, recycle and recover waste.
Resinorte regrets the inconvenience caused, for which it bears no responsibility, and thanks all the municipalities and residents involved for their understanding and cooperation. The company will continue to monitor the situation and keep the municipalities informed of developments. During this particularly challenging period, it also calls on the public to help reduce waste production and to sort materials correctly.
