The Mota-Engil Group announces with deepest regret and dismay that Engineer António Mota, a historic leader of the Group who served as president for over 27 years, between 1995 and January 2023, passed away this morning in the city of Porto.

Today, an extraordinary man departs, a visionary entrepreneur who leaves behind a unique legacy, as well as a humanist and compassionate spirit he always demonstrated towards society, and the mark he leaves on everyone who knew him.

Mota-Engil loses today a remarkable figure in its history, to whom it owes much of what it is today: a multinational group recognized for its engineering quality, and under a management with a high commitment to each client and partner, where a man's word was enough to honor his commitments, a leadership largely based on values that he transmitted to all and which we must know how to honor and give due continuity to.

A charismatic leader, a visionary businessman, and a man of immense humanity, Engineer António Mota was a prime example of his ability to inspire teams, creating close and respectful relationships with the different generations he welcomed into the company, making each one feel like an integral part of the great Mota-Engil family.

His strategic vision, his lifelong dedication to a legacy he received from his father, and the unwavering cohesion achieved through the unconditional support of his sisters, as well as the ability and dedication of all of you, transformed Mota-Engil into one of the largest Portuguese economic groups and a global benchmark in the engineering and construction sector.

Today is a day when we feel an enormous loss for the extraordinary person that Engineer António Mota was, is, and always will be in each of us – a rare combination of high standards and ever-present humanity.

The high standards stemming from the ambition he always sought to convey as a manager of excellence, coupled with his well-known dedication and sense of responsibility towards all of us, family and colleagues. The humanity and solidarity he instilled contributed significantly to the culture and values we have today at Mota-Engil, largely stemming from the teachings that Engineer António Mota imparted to us daily in every country and project he visited.

Being a major figure in the Mota-Engil family, he liked being addressed as "The Elder," a distinction he received in Angola during his youth and which he exemplarily represented today as an ever-present voice, with the experience and profound knowledge of what he knew to be best for the Group and for each of us, and which, together, we must honor and ensure the continuity of in future generations.

Finally, we inform you that the funeral ceremonies will take place tomorrow, December 1st, with a wake at 10:30 am at the Church of São Gonçalo, in Amarante, followed by a mass at 3 pm in the same location, from where the body will proceed to the family tomb in the Amarante cemetery.

The management of the Mota-Engil Group, as well as its more than 52,000 employees, join together at this time to convey their most sincere condolences to the Mota family.
